The Tony Dapolito Recreation Center at 1 Clarkson Street, a city, state and national historic landmark, served the Greenwich Village community since its opening in 1905 until it was closed for needed structural repairs five years ago. No such repairs have been made, and the New York City Parks Department has recently announced plans to demolish the building rather than repair it.
We, the undersigned, are members of the coalition to Save the Public Recreation Center Downtown and as such, are concerned citizens who urge City officials to repair, renovate and reopen the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center so that it may once again serve the community.
